Not only do I adore both of these characters individually, but together they make one of my favorite anime couples of all time. The fact that Asuka Jr is so determined to catch Kaitou Saint Tail might seem to be a sign of his dedication to bringing a criminal to justice, but in actuality it's a hint of his deeper feelings for the clever thief - who, Asuka Jr discerned a long time before, must be a girl around his age. ^_~ What drives him to chase her with such passion? What causes Saint Tail to merrily lead him along, honoring their 'promise' (episode 1) that she will always let him know when she's going to appear? The answers to those questions and the way their story is resolved make these two perfect for each other.
Miyazawa is psycho. But so is Arima. Together they make a perfectly psychopathic couple. And that's why I love them, of course. I think Miyazawa is on crack for half of the show, and I love that about her too. She's spastic and is overflowing with competitiveness, but she also has some genuine shining traits, which include her striving to change herself and when she fights with her own doubts and feelings in regard to Arima. As for Arima, I think he's hot. ^_~ Well, actually the depth and intensity with which he falls in love with Miyazawa is astounding, but compelling. Throughout the show, the way they grow and depend on each other makes them an amazing couple. [I am such a sap, I know.]
Sakura & Shaoran ( Card Captor Sakura )
Sakura and Shaoran absolutely ooze cuteness together. They are an adorably sweet pair, perhaps because of the slow rate at which their relationship progresses. After all, they both spend most of the tv series competing for the attention of someone else! :> But then Shaoran begins to notice Sakura more...and watch her more...and the elevator episode (57) clinched it for me. The way they slowly become friends and interact with each other, Shaoran's protectiveness (and embarassment...) and Sakura's sweetness (and 'cluelessness'...), make the end of the series and movie two (The Sealed Card) enchanting.
Tsukushi & Tsukasa ( Hana Yori Dango )
I personally think Makino Tsukushi is an admirable character, and Doumyouji Tsukasa a not so admirable one - but the latter changes when the two meet. The changes that Makino brings inadvertently to Tsukasa are absolutely mind-boggling - but not so mind-boggling is how hard he falls for her, and the somewhat hysterical way that Makino reacts and eventually falls for him too. The roller coaster the two take is full of laughter and of heartaches both, but there are just moments in this emotionally-powerful series where the two say nothing at all, but you can _feel_ how right these two are together. Gripping! At least, that's how I feel. ^_^
Daichi & Himeko ( Hime-chan no Ribon )
Daichi doesn't make anyone other than the Daichi Fan Club swoon, but he's got a certain charisma to him. While at first all he does is annoy Hime-chan by mistaking her for a boy (well, she's very much a tomboy), they get tangled up in messes because of Hime-chan's use of magic, and somehow end up falling into a companionable friendship. A friendship that becomes something neither of them know exactly how to define anymore. And while they keep on getting in and out of trouble, they eventually find that their relationship with each other is more important than any kind of magic. I think my favorite part about this couple is how Daichi and Hime-chan become such good friends first - Hime-chan knows she can rely on Daichi, and Daichi is always looking out for her (well, he learns to, at least).
Usagi & Mamoru ( Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon )
What can I say about the love that lasts for more than a 1,000 years from the past, and to the future? When Usagi and Mamoru first met and _fought_, it was plain to see that they never fought with anyone else as wholeheartedly as they did each other. They first loved to hate each other, until they realized that it wasn't hate after all...and that they were meant to be together. What bothers me is that quite a few fans say that it wasn't till they found out their destiny that they decided to be in love - nope. Rather, it was destiny that revealed to both of them what they were feeling all along. Doesn't facing death make you realize things you might never have chosen to faced otherwise? [Episode 33/34] I don't think anyone was as perfect for each other as Usagi and Mamoru were for each other. After 200 episodes, you might think their relationship ran out of steam - but it was quite the opposite. They still reign as the romance across the ages. [Whee look at me getting cheesy...what can I say, I've written more than a dozen fanfics about this couple...their romance is something special.] Click here to see some of the sweetest moments of this special couple, chock full of spoilers. ;p
Hayama Akito & Kurata Sana ( Kodomo no Omocha )
Sana is the hyper child actress with a heart that loves practically everyone - and even though it's hard, she eventually manages to pull trouble-maker Hayama Akito in her crazy world. The way she does that is heart-warming, and enough to ensure that Hayama's converted and hooked for life (me too :P). And, even though she's surrounded by loving family and friends she slowly realizes that Hayama - stoic / laconic / sushi-craver - is the one she needs most. Sure, Sana and Hayama are practically complete opposites, but I think that's what makes them work. Hayama is weird in his silent-as-death way, but Sana is also weird in her wake-up-the-dead way, so they match perfectly.
Seravy & Dorothy ( Akazukin Cha Cha )
Seravy might harass Dorothy for using too much make-up and being a supposedly 'cruel' person, but that seems to just be his rejected side speaking, since she has always refused to have anything to do with him. I find it really funny that while Seravy's a grown man and Dorothy a grown woman, he still teases her and she always gets really ticked off. When they were children growing up together, Seravy obsessed over the cute little blond girl that was Dorothy - who as a grown-up, decided to make herself the complete opposite of whatever Seravy had, as a little boy, adored in her. (This is described in episode 6, left, which will always make me laugh.) Still, even as grown-ups, there's something about the inability of these two to get along peacefully as just friends/acquaintences that hints that their fiery relationship of their past is not quite dead yet. They may be side characters, but they add such a fun aspect to the show. ^_^
Haneoka Eimi & Haneoka Gen'ichirou ( Kaitou Saint Tail )
Meimi herself is used to her parents mooning over each other in her presence, and is assuredly quite bored of it. But even she doesn't know the full story behind her parents' relationship - and it's a story that makes me love Kaitou Saint Tail even more. Eimi herself used to be a 'mysterious thief' - but not for good, like Meimi. And until she was running from the police and crashed into Gen'ichirou's apartment, who was only a poor practicing magician, and he surrounded her with flowers to hide her from whatever she was running from - did she realize how foolish she had been. He kept on filling her arms with flowers from that day after...since it was the only magic he could do. I love their incredibly sweet, enduring relationship, which gives their smaller roles in this story a welcome and unique spotlight - and it has the added touch of always making Meimi exasperated and embarassed. ^_^
