J.K. Rowling, my hat is off to you. By far, that is the cleverest twist I have ever read in a book, a twist, in fact, that was six books in the making. I don't think there was a single Harry Potter fan that could have predicted the identity of HBP's ultimate murderer. And just when I thought the fans had guessed absolutely everything.

In any case, I was right about the identity of who would die, but as I'm not very pleased about this, I'm crashing. Good night.

It was a wonderful book. Probably one of the best.

Okay, and here are MAJOR SPOILERS: Like, Really Gigantic Spoilers. This is a theory on the events in the last few chapters... do NOT read this until you've finished. Really.

*EDIT* 6:14 a.m. Excuse the language, but I had to do it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU STUPID HARRY/HERMIONE BITCHES, RON/HERMIONE WON! THEY WON! YOU IGNORANT FOOLS! THEY'RE TOGETHER! THEY WEPT TOGETHER! HARRY GOT A DIFFERENT SIGNIFICANT OTHER! GIVE UP AND DIE!

Yes, well, victory is so, so sweet. Even if Rowling used the word "fiercely" to describe kisses.

Spoken words: 19 have fallen.

hmm...better than all the others, really? The last book really dampened my enthusiasm of the series.

I read your spoilers, even though I haven't gotten the book yet. Interesting, I like your interpretation, and it makes me willing to go shell out $20 on the book. Otherwise I would have asked you to send me your copy.

I really love your interpretation. It gives me hope, not for the reason you might think, but because if I look at it at face value, the character (I'm trying not to spoil people and I'm doing it very clumsily, I know) becomes so much flatter and less interesting.

And the pg. 604 stuff FITS SO WELL and is SO SATISFYING.

I love you, Janice.

P.S. This was the shippiest damn book, ever. Jesus. Who didn't get paired up by the end -- Filch?

Posted by Christina @ 07/16/2005 09:06 PM PST

Okay, so I just checked back with myself and I still love you a lot. For the same reasons.

And also for this:
Even if Rowling used the word "fiercely" to describe kisses.

Dear sweet god let's have babies.

Posted by Christina @ 07/16/2005 09:14 PM PST

Who didn't get paired up by the end -- Filch?

Christina, darling, you're forgetting about his darling Mrs. Norris.

Posted by Janice @ 07/17/2005 02:06 AM PST

Yergh.

Posted by Christina @ 07/17/2005 02:20 AM PST

I'm so glad you reached similar conclusions as me in your spoiler section. I was going to be so terribly dissapointed in you if you were shocked or surprised by THAT in any way.

Ron/Hermione... <3 About damn time.

Posted by Sarah @ 07/17/2005 10:04 AM PST

P.S. I'm glad Rowling wrote Mr. Wasserman into the series.

You know what I'm talking about.

Posted by Christina @ 07/17/2005 06:09 PM PST

Oh my god. I just finished... You can't just end 652 pages like that. I might--it just--I'm hanging. I'm dangling. Over a precipice. Damn it.

No more Dumbledore? No more Hogwarts? I--I--No, no, no. The next one's going to be Harry Potter and the Return of Dumbledore. It has to be. Like Star Wars with Obi-Wan's ghostly image giving sage advice. This is just silly, killing him one book before the whole story is finished. It was beautiful, it was amazing, but also infuriating to an astounding degree. I simultaneously want to kiss Rowling and kick her in the shins.

I need to watch a Jim Carrey movie or something. I'm all depressed now.

Posted by Spencer @ 07/17/2005 11:13 PM PST

If you want to watch a -Jim Carrey- movie to make you feel better, I fear there is nothing I can do.

Well, Dumbledore's portrait *was* added to the Headmaster's Office. Was sleeping when it was up there, but since Phinneus Black was such a talker, there's every possibility that Dumbledore might speak, too.

Not like it'll be the same, though. ;_;

And Christina: I blinked for one second and then just *died*. That's one of the most brilliant observations I've ever heard from you, and that's from a very good crowd. WOW.

Posted by Janice @ 07/18/2005 02:04 PM PST

*takes a deep bow*

Posted by Christina @ 07/18/2005 03:00 PM PST

so bad.. but so good.

Posted by Jessie @ 07/18/2005 04:05 PM PST

Oh, Jessie. I have nightmares.

Posted by Christina @ 07/18/2005 06:42 PM PST

Now there's nothing wrong with Jim Carrey movies. It's disposable humor and the book left me in a serious lurch. A funk, if you will. I needed something to take my mind off the fact that Dumbledore will never provide his post-final-battle-wrapup-of-everything-that's-happened-so-far ever again. Those were especially valuable if Harry woke up in the hospital wing two weeks after the fact. Granted, it's only for one more book that this will be the case, but it was such a valuable tactic to get things pulled together in the last ten pages and gear up for the cliffhanger final paragraph.

Posted by Spencer @ 07/18/2005 08:15 PM PST

If I was at an HP party, I wouldn't have believed the guy driving by.

Well, not much, anyhow.

And speaking of final paragraphs, that's two books in a row now that didn't end with some witty, clever, funny little line. I'm feelig deprived.

Someone on the LJ community "Society of Harry Potter Fans Believing Snape's Still Good" (shpfbssg) posted a link to your theory. You are omg so speshul.

Posted by Christina @ 07/19/2005 05:06 PM PST

How the hell did they find me?

Posted by Janice @ 07/20/2005 03:31 PM PST

Quotes from Mugglenet's Interview with Rowling:

ES: We thought it was clearer than ever that ... Ron and Hermione [are an item] — although we think you made it painfully obvious in the first five books —

JKR: [points to herself and whispers] So do I!

ES: What was that?

JKR: [More loudly] Well so do I! So do I!

ES: Harry/Hermione shippers - delusional!

JKR: I will say... Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of “Azkaban,” that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...

Me: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, THEY *ARE* DELUSIONAL!!

Posted by Janice @ 07/20/2005 08:50 PM PST

Oh man. "Delusional" hahahaha.

And yes, I was pimping you out like a two-dollar whore.
